Philadelphia Daily News reporter Kitty Caparella will speak on “How the Media can be Relevant and Essential in the Internet Age” Thursday, Sept. 17, at 7:30 p.m. in Wilkes-University’s Henry Student Center Ballroom.

The event is co-hosted by Wilkes, Bloomsburg University and the University of Scranton.

According to a release from the Society of Professional Journalists Keystone State Pro chapter:

Kitty Caparella has covered mob hits, now she’s coming to Northeast
Pennsylvania to discuss blows to the media including dwindling
advertising and shrinking audiences.

A veteran crime and mafia reporter, Caparella will soon visit Wilkes
University to share colorful career tales and anecdotes about how the
news industry has changed during her 37 years with the Philadelphia
Daily News.

The Society of Professional Journalists’ Keystone Pro Chapter is
presenting her talk as part of its free, open admission speaker series
— “Endangered Species: How the Media can be Relevant and Essential in the Internet Age.” SPJ hopes local professors will attend and offer
their students extra credit to come to the talks, where they’ll be
able to ask the speakers questions.

Thursday, September 17 in the Henry Student Center Ballroom at Wilkes University. In April, Dick Meyer, National Public Radio’s executive
editor, kicked off the new media speaker series before an audience of
100 at the University of Scranton.

managing editor of, who will speak at 7:30 p.m.,
