Nicole Young, a 2000 graduate of the University of Scranton’s Department of Communication, has earned an Emmy Award for Best Report in a News Magazine in recognition of her work on CBS 60 Minutes‘ segment “The Wasteland.”

Young co-produced the revealing look at how some American companies paid to recycle waste have instead dumped the material in China where it has been blamed for environmental and health problems.

The Emmy was the sixth major award for the episode, which is a record for CBS. Previous awards included a Polk award for Television Reporting, a Murrow award for investigative reporting, and a Loeb award for Distinguished Business and Financial Reporting.
